Lisa Hamilton prefers cash games. Playing in just her second WSOP competition, Hamilton outlasted 1,059 other players to win the Ladies World Poker Championship, Event 17, of the 2009 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

It was a surprising victory for someone that rarely enters tournaments.

“I do not even play in tournaments,” Hamilton said. “That’s why everyone is teasing me.”

Last year’s champ, Svetlana Gromenkova, cashed again this time around, finishing 57th.

Several other top players cashed in Event 17, including Karina Jett (21st), Susie Isaacs (84th), Maria Ho (97th) and Erica Schoenberg (117th).

The prize pool for the Ladies World Poker Championship was $964,600.
